March 2026 | By Dr. P. Ravi Shankar

Introduction: Osteoarthritis is a wear-and-tear problem of the joints.Over time, the smooth cushion (cartilage) between your bones becomes thin. When that cushion wears out, bones start rubbing against each other—causing pain, stiffness, and difficulty in movement.

DOs and DON’Ts for Osteoarthritis

✅ DOs

Ø Maintain a healthy body weight

Ø Do regular low-impact exercises

Ø Strengthen muscles around the knee

Ø Use supportive footwear

Ø Take short breaks during long activities

❌ DON’Ts

Ø Avoid sitting cross-legged for long hours

Ø Don’t ignore pain and stiffness

Ø Avoid sudden jerky movements

Ø Don’t completely stop activity (rest too much = more stiffness).

The good news? You don’t have to live with constant pain

Consult a healthcare professional before starting exercises.
